Filter Magic^® is a universal, simple, reliable and low-cost Filter Control System perfect for retrofit solutions or new construction.

Filter Magic^® was designed and patented by Controls International, Inc. to make all Filter Control Systems a standard reproducible “product” instead of a unique integrated system. The concept is based on using a dual filter control console, AS-Interface (AS-I) bus network technology, K-Tork pneumatic vane actuators and is completely scalable from a micro 2 filter water treatment plant to a major facility with 40 or more filters.

A reliable Compressed Air System is an integral and very important part of a Filter Magic^® solution. Evaluation of existing systems or designs for new systems are available upon request.

Simple

Filter Magic^® is a very simple control system that eliminates or minimizes complexity normally found in traditional or older filter control systems. The touch-screen Operator Interface Terminal eliminates all physical control switches, push buttons, pilot lights and instrumentation normally associated with a filter console. It also allows the overall size of the console to be substantially smaller. Utilizing the AS-I bus network greatly reduces the amount of traditional I/O, console wiring complexity / terminations, as well as field terminations. Also using pneumatic vane actuators that have one moving part simplifies the mechanical aspect of the filter control system.

Eliminating and minimizing all this traditional complexity provides a much more reliable filter control system in the Filter Gallery and in the Filter Pipe Gallery.

It substantially reduces the cost of installing a new system by as much as 40% or more with additional maintenance savings over the years.

Non-proprietary

Filter Magic^® consoles are provided as dual filter control consoles utilizing one touch-screen Operator Interface Terminal (OIT) to monitor and control two filters. Optional quad or larger console configurations can also be provided upon request.

Indoor consoles are provided in Filter Magic^® Blue painted steel enclosures. Outdoor consoles are provided in stainless steel enclosures.

Filter Magic^® utilizes one AS-Interface (AS-I) bus network loop to communicate to all field devices associated with a pair of filters including the valve actuators, level and flow transmitters, turbidity and particle counter analyzers. This simple to use, maintain and troubleshoot technology saves substantial time and money during installation and throughout the years.

Filter Magic^® OIT graphic screens are easy to use to monitor and control each filter, either automatically or manually, as well as related air scour, surface wash or backwash pump sub-systems. This is accomplished through traditional graphic screens as shown above or an incremental step screen for the filter backwash program.

Filter Magic^® is available in three PLC configurations including Modicon, Allen Bradley and Bristol Babcock.

K-Tork Pneumatic Vane Actuators are an integral part of a Filter Magic^® solution for control of the filters. These heavy duty actuators have one moving part, are AWWA C540-02 compliant and are rated with a 2,000,000 operation performance warranty. Each actuator is provided with an integrally potted AS-I device that only requires two terminations to fully monitor and control the actuator.

K-Tork will retrofit existing valves with new AS-I actuators or will provide completely new valve actuator sets as required for a specific project application.
