Filter Magic® filter console has four operation
modes.
1) SCADA Automatic -
SCADA in the central control room initiates the backwash through the individual
filter console that acts as the final arbitrator. The filter console reports
all backwash operations to the SCADA.
2) Local Automatic (tier 1
password protected) - An automatic backwash is initiated and performed at
the individual filter console, reporting all data to SCADA.
3) Manual (tier 2 password
protected) - Operator has ability to open and close all valves at any time.
Exception: Software will not
allow an operator to open any valve that will jeopardize the integrity of the
filter operation.
4) Simulation Mode -
Operator has the ability to utilize the simulator to run a backwash cycle
without real output that will affect the system. This feature is often used as
a training tool for new plant operator.
An important aspect of the Filter Magic ® Console
is the Magelis HMI (Human Machine Interface).
The screen displays unique operating graphics, which show how the console
monitors and controls the filter operation. Operator or SCADA issued commands
are instantly displayed on the graphic screen. Safeguards in the code will not
allow a valve to open or close until the preceding step has been successfully
completed. During an automatic backwash, several steps can be extended such as
air scour and low/high backwash water durations.
This approach is revolutionary in
design but at the same time non-proprietary. The IEC Function Block PLC code is
provided to the end user. Filter Magic has a Patent Pending on the control
system when integrated with a bus network. Due to the individual nature of
each filter, the plant operator has the ability to configure multiple
parameters such as water levels in the filter basin before initiating backwash,
air scour time duration, and low/high backwash durations via the HMI.
